World Cup 2026 Quarter-finals — Fixtures, Teams & Dates

The FIFA World Cup 2026 Quarter-finals take place July 9–11, 2026. Eight teams — the survivors of the Round of 16 — compete across three days in single-elimination matches. Four winners advance to the Semi-finals. At this stage, every team is a serious contender.

When are the World Cup 2026 Quarter-finals?

The Quarter-finals run from July 9 to July 11, 2026, with four matches across three days. The Semi-finals then follow on July 14 and 15.

How does the Quarter-final work?

Single-elimination: 8 teams play 4 matches. Win → Semi-finals. Lose → eliminated. If level after 90 minutes, extra time (2×15 mins), then penalties if still tied. No aggregate scores, no away goals.

How do teams reach the Quarter-finals?

To reach the 2026 Quarter-finals, a team must win three consecutive knockout matches — the Round of 32, then the Round of 16, then the Quarter-final itself. The new Round of 32 means reaching the last eight requires one more win than in previous World Cups.

Quarter-final favourites

Dark horses: 🇳🇴 Norway (Haaland 5 goals, face Brazil Jul 5), 🇲🇽 Mexico (perfect group stage, 87,000 fans at Azteca), 🇺🇸 USA (host nation, beat Bosnia 2-0 R32).

Has Spain conceded a goal yet at World Cup 2026?

No. Spain have played 5 matches at the 2026 World Cup — three in the group stage (Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Algeria) and two in the knockouts (Croatia in R32, Austria in R32 was a typo — actually beat Austria in R32) — and have not conceded a single goal. Goalkeeper Unai Simón has set a new World Cup record for consecutive clean sheets.

They are the only team in the Round of 16 yet to concede. The last team to go through an entire World Cup without conceding in the group stage and knockouts was France in 2006 (until the Final). Oyarzabal (4 goals) is Spain's joint-top scorer. They face Portugal on July 6, 3pm ET at AT&T Stadium, Dallas.
